Please be reminded that under Bermuda Law, HSBC Bermuda has an obligation to collect Foreign Currency Purchase Tax (FCPT) on any purchase of foreign currency using Bermuda Dollars ("BMD"). This Bermuda Government tax applies to the purchase of foreign currency using an HSBC Bermuda BMD account or the conversion of BMD received from another Bank into your foreign currency accounts. Certain classes of entities and individuals are exempt from FCPT.
Effective 1 January 2007, process changes were made to the way payments to European destinations are accepted. When submitting payment instructions to euro cross border countries within the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA), it is mandatory for you to supply both the Bank Identifier Code (BIC) and International Bank Account Number (IBAN) details of your beneficiary. Any euro cross border payment instructions submitted without the BIC and IBAN to countries within the EU and EEA will be rejected and/or returned.
