Meet Anthony...

Question: Why did you apply for a job at HSBC?

Answer: I was attracted to HSBC because of the intense Graduate Development Program (GDP) offered. The GDP affords recent graduates the opportunity to rotate through one of the Bank's business lines, enabling them to experience the inner most workings of the Bank. To me, this was a perfect opportunity as I was uncertain of which route to take once I completed my business degree.
I was also attracted to HSBC as a work place due to the global reach that the company has. The prospect of being able to work in any of the 87 countries in which HSBC is located was very tempting! In fact, within my two years on the GDP, I was sent to the UK for 4 weeks on a training course. This exposed me even further to the international capabilities of HSBC.

What do you like most about your job?

Answer: The best part about my job at the moment is that I have been trusted by my department to grow a portfolio of clients. This responsibility consists of dealing with clients on a daily basis and assisting them in growing their relationships with us. Managing these relationships is definitely one of the key aspects that I enjoy in my role here at HSBC.

Question: What areas of HSBC have you experienced so far?

Answer: I have worked with several teams at HSBC. I spent almost a year of my GDP experience working at the Church Street Branch with the Business Banking team, shadowing relationship managers and working as a middle office credit analyst. I then worked for two months in our Payments and Cash Management business, where I learned crucial information regarding internet banking channels. I also spent a number of weeks on the Global Asset Management and Global Markets teams, where I was exposed to funds and daily markets. The final segment of my time in the GDP was spent with my current team in Corporate Banking.

Question: How has this job helped you in your career development?

Answer: The GDP has helped me immensely in my career development. This program fast tracked me to a steady and respectable career. It exposed me to areas of the bank that I might never had been exposed to otherwise, and has given me the extra confidence and knowledge that I need for my current job in Corporate Banking.

Question: Do you have any words of wisdom regarding careers?

Answer: I would strongly recommend the GDP for any university graduate that wishes to enter the financial services industry. This program will expose you to areas of the Bank that will both interest you and challenge you. Working with HSBC will not only expose you to different career paths locally; the opportunities for international experiences do exist.
