HSBC is the recipient of the "2013 Good Corporate Citizen" award. The award is issued by the Bermudian Magazine, and is given to the organisation that has had the most impact on the local community between June 2012 - March 2013. The Bank's commitment to addressing community needs is long-standing and HSBC Bermuda will continue to focus on participating in the development of the local economy through sponsorships, donations and volunteerism.
In 2006 the Bank launched the Staff Community Action Day Volunteer Programme, providing all permanent, full time HSBC Bermuda staff with time off from work per calendar year to volunteer to assist with projects focused on education, environment and the general community. Since inception of the programme, Bank staff have volunteered nearly 7,000 hours of community service. Each year the Bank selects three projects for staff participation.

In 2009, HSBC partnered with the Ministry, Department of Conservation Services, Department of Parks and adopted a part of Cooper’s Island (which was formerly occupied by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration), providing funding and support to restore the area back to its original state.
Since the project’s inception, HSBC Bank’s Staff Volunteers have removed invasive plant species, replanted native and endemic plants and installed Longtail nesting igloos on the adopted land. These volunteer initiatives have helped provide a crucial buffer area needed in order to safeguard the breeding territory of endangered species such as green turtles, Bermuda petrels (Cahows) and the Bermuda skink. As a result of the collaboration between the Ministry, the Bank and Bank staff, the adopted land was re-opened for the enjoyment of the community in 2011 and an observation Watch Tower was officially opened in May 2013, allowing the community to experience the views and wildlife of Coopers Island from a spectacular vantage point.
HSBC Bermuda would like to invite the local community to assist with making Cooper's Island a natural green space. Individually, our efforts may not seem significant but collectively we can make a big difference, protecting our island home for future generations.
If you are interested in joining HSBC in this volunteer initiative (families, individuals, teams - all are welcome!) or would like further information, please email Clesia Realejo, Senior Event Sponsorship and Activation Specialist (email@example.com) or contact via telephone (+441.299.6102).
The Foundation concentrates on charitable giving to local charities and funds scholarships for local students.
