Urgent Notice to Cardholders
HSBC wish to inform our valued customers, that one of our retail card merchants has experienced a data breach. This merchant data breach is impacting card holders who have shopped at the merchant site over the last 5 weeks. Along with other banks, HSBC cards are also impacted. On discovery of the breach, the merchant stopped accepting cards (late Friday evening 23 January). The merchant has released a press release to alert their customers to the breach.
HSBC has taken preliminary precautionary measures through increased monitoring to reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions.
HSBC is reminding its customers of the importance of carefully checking their accounts and statements on a regular basis. In the event an HSBC customer suspects any irregular activity on their HSBC cards, we request them to immediately inform the bank by visiting one of our local branches. Our Bermuda based staff and call centre colleagues are being kept updated on this matter to better serve impacted customers, as we work with the merchant to rectify this situation as quickly as possible.
