Verify my browser

We have added an extra layer of security for your online banking which prevents unauthorised logons from web browsers which you have not used before.

How it works

When you logon on using a new web browser for the first time:

  • If you login using your password only, you’ll need to provide a one-time passcode sent via SMS to your registered mobile number. You will then be asked whether to trust the browser for all your future logins.
  • And if you have a security device, you can choose whether to login and trust the browser via the SMS one time passcode or by using your security device.

Once you trust that browser on that device, you will not be asked again unless you upgrade to a new version of the browser or re-install the browser.

If you choose not to trust the browser, you will be prompted again next time you log in using the same browser and will need to complete the steps advised above.

Make sure your mobile number is registered with HSBC or if you have recently changed your mobile number, make sure it is up to date. You can always update your mobile number in online banking by updating your personal details.
